False teachers have arisen and were challenging the churches with their counterfeit teachings and immoral lifestyles during this period, thought to have been written by Peter.  Motived by greed, arrogance, and their desires, Peter fights back asserting that apostolic teaching was not a matter of spinning their own ideas.
